Where to start from
If you are looking for a ferry to Murano, the vaporetto is it: the boat to Murano is an ordinary ACTV water bus, not a separate island service. Which line you take depends on where you are staying:

Where to start from for Murano, depending on your base
At Fondamente Nove, line 12 boards at landing stage A and lines 4.1 and 4.2 at landing stage B. Lines 4.1 and 4.2 each run every 20 minutes, and so does line 12 from mid-morning, which together gives you a vaporetto to Murano about every ten minutes. Which stop to get off at
- Colonna: the first stop on lines 4.1 and 4.2, at the start of Fondamenta dei Vetrai with the glassworks and shops. Line 3 stops here too. The right choice for a first visit.
- Faro: the only Murano stop of line 12, by the lighthouse. This is where you pick up line 12 again for Burano.
- Museo: for the Glass Museum and the basilica of Santi Maria e Donato, on lines 4.1, 4.2 and 3.
- Navagero, Serenella, Venier, Da Mula: smaller stops on the circular lines, useful for one particular glassworks. Da Mula is served again.
Which ticket covers Murano
Murano sits inside the Venice urban fare zone, so there is no island fare: the timed ACTV ticket covers the crossing, with a validation every time you board. Alilaguna boats and airport services stay outside it, as do ACTV lines 16 and 19 and the Casinò line.
The 75-minute ticket is a single journey. You may change boats within the 75 minutes, but after a few hours on the island the way back needs a second ticket. If you add Burano or a ride on the Grand Canal, the 24-hour ticket is the cheaper choice from the third ride. All durations side by side are on vaporetto tickets.
A ticket booked online is neither refundable nor changeable. Before your first ride you collect it at an ACTV machine by entering the PNR code printed under the QR on your voucher; the QR itself is not scanned.
Getting back to Venice
Boats back to Fondamente Nove leave Murano about every ten minutes during the day: line 12 from Faro, lines 4.1 and 4.2 from Colonna. Line 12 runs back from Faro until after midnight, and once the day boats stop, the NMU night line loops round Murano and back to Fondamente Nove until the early morning.

Murano and Burano in one day
Line 12 continues from Murano Faro to Mazzorbo and Burano, about 30 minutes further on. Stop at Murano on the way out, then pick line 12 up again at Faro: that is the simplest way to see Murano and Burano by vaporetto in one day. The route, its stops and the times are on line 12 to the islands and Venice to Burano.
Torcello is five minutes from Burano on line 9. A few early line 12 sailings also call at Torcello, but only on request.

How often does the vaporetto to Murano run? +
During the day a vaporetto leaves Fondamente Nove for Murano about every ten minutes. Lines 4.1 and 4.2 each run every 20 minutes, and line 12 does the same from mid-morning.
What is the fastest way from the station to Murano? +
Line 3 runs directly from Piazzale Roma and the station stop to Murano Colonna in about 20 minutes, until early evening. Outside those hours line 4.2 from the station gets you there in about half an hour.

Yes, with Alilaguna: the Blu line and the seasonal Rossa line stop at Murano Colonna. Alilaguna is a different company with a separate ticket, so the ACTV ticket does not cover that trip.

Yes. Up to three pieces travel free, each up to 150 cm in combined dimensions, under the ACTV conditions of carriage. For extra or larger items you need a luggage ticket at the passenger fare.
