A vaporetto is a public water bus. In Venice the network is run by ACTV, the public transport company of the city, and it takes the place of buses and trains: cars stop at Piazzale Roma, and from there the boats run along the Grand Canal, around the edge of the historic centre and across the lagoon to Murano, Burano, Torcello and the Lido.
Read this page as a written vaporetto map. The lines are grouped by what they are for, each with its route, interval and first and last boat. Below them is a table of the pontoons at the busy stops, where each line and direction has its own landing.
All the lines on this page are covered by the standard ACTV tickets, from the 75-minute ticket to the seven-day pass. The Alilaguna airport boats belong to a different company and need their own ticket; see airport to Venice. Prices and durations are on vaporetto tickets and passes.

From Piazzale Roma and the station down the whole Grand Canal past Rialto and Accademia to San Marco, then along the waterfront to the Lido. It stops at every landing, which makes it the sightseeing line. Stop list and pontoons: line 1 on the Grand Canal.
From San Zaccaria via the Giudecca, the Zattere and Tronchetto to Piazzale Roma, then down the Grand Canal with few stops to Rialto, and in the daytime on to Accademia and San Marco Giardinetti. In the morning and late afternoon the extra line 2/ runs between Piazzale Roma, Ferrovia and Rialto. Details: line 2 express.
Two loops in opposite directions around the edge of the historic centre: Fondamente Nove, the station, Piazzale Roma, the Giudecca, San Zaccaria and Sant'Elena, with both ends continuing to Murano. Line 4.1 from San Zaccaria reaches Fondamente Nove in 33 minutes; line 4.2 from the station in 23 minutes.
The second pair of loops, between the Lido and the city: Fondamente Nove, the station, Piazzale Roma, the Zattere and San Zaccaria. Line 5.2 runs from the station to Fondamente Nove in 20 minutes, the quickest way to the boats for Burano.
The island line from Fondamente Nove to Murano Faro, Mazzorbo and Burano, with Torcello on the morning and evening boats, and on to Treporti. Burano is 41 minutes out. Line 12 to Burano in detail: line 12 to the islands.
A five-minute shuttle from Burano pontoon A to Torcello. In the daytime it is the way to Torcello, combined with line 12 to Burano.

The night counterpart to lines 12 and 13. It connects Fondamente Nove with Murano Faro, Mazzorbo, Burano and Treporti.
At the big stops every line, and often every direction, has its own floating landing, marked with a letter. The letter is on the pontoon and in the timetables. These are the ones to know.

Pontoon letters in the autumn and winter timetable.
ACTV switched to its autumn timetable on 14 September 2026. For visitors these are the changes that matter:
The main lines start before five in the morning: line 2 leaves San Zaccaria at 04:55 and line 1 leaves Piazzale Roma at 05:01. The last line 1 boat leaves Piazzale Roma at 23:41 and reaches the Lido at 00:39. In between, lines 1 and 2 run every 12 minutes, and the circular lines every 20 minutes. From 23:30 the night line N takes over.
First and last boats for every line, side by side, are on the vaporetto timetable. The timetable can change at short notice in thick fog and at high water: from a tide of about 85 cm ACTV runs a high-water plan, and from about 95 cm line 2 is split and line 3 is suspended.
Every ticket, paper or digital, must be validated at the reader at the entrance of the pontoon before you board. The first validation starts the validity period. With a 75-minute ticket you can change boats within that time.
Up to three pieces of luggage travel free, each up to 150 cm in combined dimensions, under the ACTV conditions of carriage. Larger or additional items need a ticket of their own.
A single ride costs €9.50 and is valid for 75 minutes. From three rides in a day the 24-hour ticket for €25 costs less, and for a stay of three days the 72-hour ticket for €45. All durations are on vaporetto tickets and passes.
FAQ
Line 1 stops at every landing on the Grand Canal between Piazzale Roma and San Marco and continues to the Lido. Line 2 covers the same canal with fewer stops and reaches San Marco Giardinetti in the daytime.
Line 12 from Fondamente Nove calls at Murano Faro and reaches Burano in 41 minutes. For Murano alone, line 3 runs from Piazzale Roma and the station, and lines 4.1 and 4.2 from Fondamente Nove.
Lines 1, 5.1, 5.2 and 14, and at night line N. In the autumn and winter timetable line 2 does not run to the Lido.
Lines 1 and 2 run every 12 minutes in the daytime and every 20 minutes early and late. The circular lines run every 20 minutes, line 12 every 20 minutes in the daytime and line 9 every 15 minutes.
Yes. Line N runs from 23:30 until the early morning between San Zaccaria, Piazzale Roma, Rialto and the Lido. Line NLN serves Murano, Burano and Treporti from Fondamente Nove between 23:20 and 02:57.
Yes, on all the lines on this page. The 75-minute ticket and the timed tickets from 24 hours to seven days cover the whole urban network, including Murano, Burano, Torcello and the Lido. They are not valid on the Alilaguna airport boats.
